BusyContacts Phone Numbers Displayed Incorrectly

BusyContacts can format phone numbers in different ways for display (for example, adding spaces, parentheses, dashes, or a country code).

If your phone numbers “don’t look right”, change the display format setting.

Change the phone display format

  1. Open BusyContacts > Settings.
  2. Go to General.
  3. Adjust Phone Format For Display.

The available options are:

  • Original Number — Shows the phone number exactly as it’s stored (no formatting).
  • Minimal — Applies light formatting (often just spacing) for readability.
  • International — Formats numbers with an international prefix (for example +1 …).
  • National — Formats numbers in a “local” style (for example (… ) …-… in the US).

Important notes

  • This setting affects display only inside BusyContacts. Changing it does not modify the phone number value stored on the contact. BusyContacts deliberately keeps the number you originally entered intact — it will never rewrite, reformat, or alter the stored value. The display format is applied on top of your original entry purely for readability.
  • When you click into a Phone field to edit it, BusyContacts shows the original stored value so it’s easier to edit. The display formatting applies when you are not actively editing the field.
  • Because the stored number is never changed, it’s important to enter phone numbers in the correct format from the start — especially if you rely on dialing from your iPhone or other devices. What you type is exactly what gets saved and synced, so make sure the number (including any country code or area code) is entered the way you expect it to appear on your other devices.

If the formatting still looks wrong

  • Set Phone Format For Display to Original Number to confirm what is actually stored for that contact.
  • Try International if you frequently work with contacts from multiple countries.
  • Check the contact’s country/region information (for example, the Country field in an Address). Phone formatting often depends on the region used to interpret a number.
