Why Does the Alarm Sound Name Change After Syncing?

Most calendar and task services — including Apple's Reminders — do not sync the alarm sound name between devices. After a task or event syncs, the alarm sound label shown in BusyCal on the receiving device may differ from what was originally set (for example, you might see "Basso" instead of "Chime").

Why This Happens

The alarm sound is a device-local property. When a task or event syncs from another device, the server only transmits that an alarm exists — not which sound file should play. BusyCal may display a placeholder name (such as "Basso") in the alarm details, but this label does not determine which sound actually plays.

What You Should Do

Set your preferred alarm sound in BusyCal's settings on each device separately:

  • Mac: BusyCal > Settings > Alarms > Default Alarm Sound
  • iOS: BusyCal > Settings > Sound

BusyCal will use the default alarm sound configured locally on that device, regardless of what sound name appears on the synced task or event. You can safely ignore the sound name shown in the alarm details — it is informational only.
